Billy and Tommy in Vision Quest: The Family Legacy
When Wanda Maximoff created her Westview reality in WandaVision, she conjured twin sons — Billy and Tommy — whose existence became one of the most emotionally charged threads in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Vision Quest, the Marvel Television series that premiered on Disney+ on October 14, 2026, picks up that thread and pulls it straight into Vision's next chapter.
The series, starring Paul Bettany as the reconstructed White Vision and James Spader returning as Ultron, places the Maximoff family legacy at the center of its conflict. While Vision searches for who he is after his destruction and reconstruction, the question of what happened to his sons gives that search its emotional weight.
Billy and Tommy are not background lore. Their existence defines Vision's motivation as a father figure and anchors the escape storyline that shapes the series' central conflict.
Who Are Billy and Tommy? Origins in WandaVision
Billy and Tommy were born inside the Hex during WandaVision, apparently created from fragments of the demon Mephisto in the comics, and from Wanda's chaos magic and grief in the MCU. When Wanda collapsed the Westview anomaly, the twins faded with it — but Agatha All Along later confirmed that they still exist somewhere, setting up the search that continues in Vision Quest.
Billy Maximoff (Wiccan)
- Powers: Chaos magic and reality manipulation, echoing Wanda
- Comic identity: Wiccan, founding Young Avengers member
- MCU status: His location and rebirth remain a major open question
Tommy Shepherd (Speed)
- Powers: Super speed, mirroring his uncle Pietro
- Comic identity: Speed, Young Avengers recruit
- Vision Quest role: Central to the escape storyline alongside Vision
| Twin | MCU Debut | Power Set | Comic Alias | Vision Quest Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Billy | WandaVision (2021) | Chaos magic, telepathy | Wiccan | Uncertain / theorized |
| Tommy | WandaVision (2021) | Super speed | Speed | Confirmed storyline figure |
The MCU distinguishes between "Tommy Maximoff" (the Hex-born child) and "Thomas Shepherd" (the reincarnated version from the comics). Vision Quest uses the Shepherd identity, matching Marvel's comics lore where the souls of Wanda's sons were reborn in new bodies.
Thomas Shepherd and the Escape Storyline
The core narrative of Vision Quest follows Vision and Thomas Shepherd on an escape-driven path. This pairing is deliberate: a synthezoid questioning whether identity comes from a body, a memory, or personal choice, traveling with a boy whose very existence blurs the line between magical creation and reincarnated soul.
Why does Vision protect Tommy? Because Tommy may be the closest thing he has to a son — a living piece of the family he shared with Wanda, even if the body and memories are new. The series uses their relationship to explore protection, responsibility, and what family means after loss.
Establish the Bond
Early episodes define how Vision and Tommy find each other and why Vision chooses to protect him.
Introduce the Pursuit
Forces connected to Ultron's legacy and Vision's synthetic origins create the pressure that drives the escape.
Test Identity and Loyalty
Tommy's speed and impulsiveness clash with Vision's logic, forcing both to reevaluate what they owe each other.
Resolve the Family Question
The storyline asks whether family is inherited, created, or chosen — the same question Vision faces about himself.
Details about Tommy's arc and the series ending are still being documented as episodes air. Treat unconfirmed plot points in fan communities as theories, not official story information.
Billy Theories: Where Is Wiccan?
While Tommy's presence is central, Billy's role fuels the most active fan speculation. Agatha All Already strongly hinted that Billy was reborn — in the comics, both twins' souls found new bodies, and the MCU appears to be following that pattern with Billy potentially already walking around in a new identity.
| Theory | Supporting Evidence | Likelihood |
|---|---|---|
| Billy already reborn in the MCU | Agatha All Along's search for him | High |
| Billy appears in Vision Quest finale | Family reunion storytelling pattern | Moderate |
| Billy saved for a Young Avengers project | Marvel's team-building pattern | Moderate |
| Billy connected to Wanda's return | Chaos magic inheritance | Speculative |
Marvel has officially confirmed Tommy's importance to Vision Quest's storyline. Billy's involvement remains unconfirmed — everything beyond that is fan theory and should be labeled as such.

- Rewatch WandaVision episodes featuring Billy and Tommy
- Note Agatha All Along's hints about the twins' survival
- Review Vision's origin in Age of Ultron
- Read the West Coast Avengers Vision Quest comic arc

The series title comes from the West Coast Avengers "Vision Quest" storyline by John Byrne, in which Vision is dismantled, his memories erased, and his family with Wanda and the twins shattered. The show adapts those themes of erasure and rebuilding for the MCU.
